Two Bridges Student Artist Spotlight

Lisa Godin

Where did you grow up?

Ludlow MA

Can you share your earliest memories of creating art?

At an early age I was discouraged by an art teacher when creating art, so I didn’t draw or paint again.  My mother and grandmother were creative, and my mother expressed her art by creating clothes for my sister and I. She also expressed herself through cooking, interior design and garden design. So, it is no coincidence that is how I expressed my creativity. In all creative endeavors I envision an outfit, a meal or a landscape plan. Then I obsessively revise it in my head until I actually create it. The same is true for art. I see something that strikes my interest and then start planning how I’ll paint it until I actually do.

What did you do before you started creating such wonderful art?

I only started painting 4 years ago. For 30+ years prior I was a client engagement executive for Fortune 1000 software companies

Do you have any recent memories of creating art you'd like to share?

I just finished an experimental piece. It’s a loose seascape using only a palette knife. I’m also currently working on a new series of still life paintings.  I’ve photographed about 20 scenes and will choose which I’ll paint this week.

Would you share your art education to date with us?

I started with some online video intro courses.  Then I was gifted a class at Worcester Museum and have continued with you and Lisa ever since.

Where can we find your work?

I have an active Instagram (@GALeryHomeStudio) where I promote my new work as well as a website GALeryHomeStudio.com. I also have had a booth at Brimfield Fair and usually enter a couple juried art shows a year.  My intention is that by fall my Instagram account will be strong enough to start reaching out to galleries, interior designers and art procurement organizations.

Any final thoughts?

I would never have reached my current capabilities without taking drawing classes first, followed by specific medium classes. Drawing is key!
